Average net wage in Romania, up 8.7% in March versus February

The average net wage in Romania went up by 8.7% in March compared to the previous month, reaching RON 2.704 (EUR 581), according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Most economic sectors recorded higher net wages in March compared to February due to the granting of occasional bonuses. The highest increases were recorded in the tobacco industry, where the average net salary went up by a third (32.1%), in the insurance sector (+26.1%) and real estate (+24.2%).

In the public sector, the average net wage increased by 22.7% in the healthcare system and by 18.6% in education.

The highest average net wage was in the IT sector, namely RON 6,689 (EUR 1,438) per month, and the lowest was in the hotel and restaurant sector, RON 1,541 (EUR 331).

Overall, the average net wage was 15.5% higher in March 2018 compared to March 2017.
