Babysitting, officially recognized as a profession in Romania

04 December 2014

The Romanian Chamber of Deputies recently adopted a legislative initiative which officially recognizes babysitting as a profession in Romania. The draft law was adopted with 285 votes in favour and just 3 votes against, reports local Digi24.

According to the law, one can be a babysitter if she/he has never been convicted, or if the person doesn’t have close relatives convicted for criminal offenses.

Any person domiciled or residing in Romania, who is capable from the psychological point of view, can be a babysitter. On the other hand, people who have made abuses while practicing their profession, those who live with a convicted person, those who have been deprived of parental rights or who are alcohol or drug addicts can't be babysitters.

The law also states that a babysitter must have an individual work contract with a specialised firm or can work independently as an individual registered for business with Romanian authorities.

A babysitter can take care of up to four children aged under 4, reports Digi24.

The law must be signed by the Romanian President before entering into force.
