Bad weather closed Romania’s high-altitude road Transalpina a month earlier
Romania’s mountain road Transalpina was closed a month earlier due to the recent bad weather alerts. The road was also officially closed during the summer, because works were not completed, but tourists have been driving on the Transalpina anyway. Now however, in order to make sure the the restriction is respected respected, road workers in Gorj county decided to block the road with concrete barriers, reports local Digi24.
“In this area, the risk is very high when it snows so we’ve installed a barrier at km 34,” said Ion Tudor, director with the Gorj National Roads authority.
At an altitude of 2,145 meters, DN67C, also known as Transalpina, is the highest altitude road in Romania. The other high altitude road in Romania is Transfagarasan.
