Basil, Romanians’ preferred aromatic plant
Basil is the most popular aromatic plant among Romanians, followed by rosemary, mint and sage, according to do-it-yourself retailer Hornbach. Basil has medical and culinary uses, but it is also connected to the Orthodox world, as it is used in the church.
For Hornbach, basil seeds are best sold, followed by rosemary, mint and sage, said Mugurel – Horia Rusu, general manager of Hornbach Romania. Romanians use other spices too for their food, including laurel, coriander, oregano, sweet marjoram and Valerian.
Many Romanians choose to grow these plants either in their own gardens, or even in pots, on their balconies, for those who live in cities, as these plants are easy to grow.
Hornbach runs five stores in Romania.
