BAT sells EUR 1.1 bln of cigarettes in Romania
Tobacco producer British American Tobacco (BAT) posted around EUR 1.1 billion in sales last year in Romania, up on EUR 978 million, a year before. The increase was due to a hike in cigarettes prices, which was also triggered by an increase in tobacco excises.
BAT produces Kent cigarettes, which is the best sold cigarettes brand in Romania, with a market share of 25 percent.
The Romanian tobacco market is estimated at around EUR 2 billion. Apart from BAT, Philip Morris and Japan Tobacco International are also active on the Romanian market. The local tobacco market has been facing cigarettes smuggling, which contributed to their decline in sale.
