Beach between Romanian resorts Mamaia and Eforie Nord to expand with EUR 170 million funding
Seven and a half kilometers of beach between the Romanian seaside resorts of Mamaia and Eforie Nord will receive a EUR 170 million revamp, with most of the money coming from European funds. The contract was recently signed by the country's Environment Minister Rovana Plumb.
After the recuperation project is complete, the beach area will expand by 33 hectares between the two resorts. The authorities expect the improved, enlarged beach to bring some 32,000 more tourists to the area.
Expanding and repairing the beach is as important as building the highway to Constanta, according to Constanta mayor Radu Mazare.
The beach project should be finished by the end of 2015, and a similar project could start in the southern stretch of Romania's coast next year.
