Minister: Some big companies plan to relocate operations to Romania

18 October 2017

Several big companies will announce that they will relocate operations to Romania by the end of this year, business environment minister Ilan Laufer said at a conference.

He added that foreign investors are more drawn by the benefits they find in Romania, which include the country’s economic growth, salary levels, the single tax rate and the local market’s growth potential.

“There is a move towards Central and Eastern Europe and Romania is in a better position than several years ago when the projects that came to this region went to Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries that seemed to offer better conditions,” Laufer said.

He pointed out that Romania has great potential in the IT sector.

The minister also said that several carmakers are interested in opening car plants in the region and Romania has become a serious option for them, reports local Hotnews.ro. He said the Romanian authorities have talked to “at least two” companies in the auto industry who will decide where to build new production units.

Western Romania is the more interesting region as it has fewer infrastructure problems.
