Blizzard hits Romania, several roads closed
A new code orange for snowfall was issued by Romania’s state weather service for Monday, December 29, for nine counties in eastern Romania, and a code yellow for 15 other counties, including the capital Bucharest.
In three counties, Buzau, Vrancea and Braila, a code red for blizzard was issued on Monday morning, as gushes of wind of up to 90 km/h have turned the snowfall into a blizzard and visibility is almost zero.
Several main roads in Buzau and Braila counties were closed on Monday morning due to the blizzard. These include the national road DN2 which connects Bucharest to the Moldova region, which was closed between Urziceni and Adjud. The A2 highway which connects Romania’s capital Bucharest to the Black Sea port of Constanta was also closed due to low visibility and snow.
