BNR: Nearly 700,000 Romanians have total overdue debts of EUR 2.3 billion

The number of Romanians with debts more than 30 days overdue amounted to nearly 700,000 at the end of March this year, with total debts to financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions of some EUR 2.3 billion - one-third higher than in the same period last year, according to data provided by the country’s Central Bank (BNR).

However, the total number of overdue debts continued to decline, reaching the minimum level of the last year, of 962,366. The average value of an overdue debt was some EUR 2,400 in March this year.

The total debts in foreign currency represented one third of the population’s total payment delays. Over the past year, the fastest growth rate of 37 percent was recorded for loans in EUR, reaching the value of some EUR 920 million at the end of March this year.
