Book about Romanian President Traian Basescu published in the USA

A book called "Romania under Basescu. Aspirations, Achievements, and frustrations during His First Presidential Term", edited by Ronald F. King and Paul Sum, has been recently published in USA. The announcement was made by the Romanian political scientist, Vladimir Tismaneanu, on his blog. Tismaneanu is one of the book authors.

“The book is a non-partisan ray of the aspirations, achievements and frustrations of Basescu's first Presidential term”, says Vladimir Tismaneanu on his blog.

“Of particular importance is the contribution by Vladimir Tismaneanu, named by President Basescu to chair the Presidential Commission for the Analysis of the Communist Dictatorship, which addresses the importance of memory and truth-telling as a means of mastering the past and advancing to the future”, the book's presentation writes.

The volume includes 17 texts written by academic teachers in Europe and North America, most of them of Romanian origin. The first chapter of the volume is written by Vladimir Tismaneanu and is entitled "Democracy and the Communist Past in Romania".
