Books on transport scheme to start on Romanian trains with Bucharest Galati route

19 October 2012

The books on trains scheme in Romania is moving above ground, with the intercity train running between Bucharest and Galati to have 60 titles for passengers to read during their journey. Like the previous scheme on Bucharest's public transport, Romanian retailer BookLand will provide the books for the Bucharest-Galati intercity train.

A variety of Romanian and international literature will be on offer, but the books are to be securely chained to the train. The majority of the books previously put on buses and metros in Bucharest were stolen within a few days.

Launched i April this year, the campaign aimed to improve quality of life by providing reading material for passengers. In early September, the BookLand team and RATB put books on 80 buses on central lines, however within days, 80 percent of the books had disappeared, according to the organizers of the project. In mid-September BookLand moved to the metro route Republica - Dristor,  providing around 60 titles for travelers.
