Eurostat: Bread prices in Romania, the lowest in EU

Bread and cereal prices in Romania were almost half (47%) of the EU average in 2019. They were also the lowest in the EU, according to Eurostat data quoted by local Agerpres

Last year, the price of bread and cereals across the EU was around three times as high in the most expensive Member State than in the cheapest one, Eurostat said.

The price of bread and cereals was highest in Denmark - 51% above the EU level, followed by Austria - 33% above the EU level, and Luxembourg and Finland - both 25% above the EU level.

At the opposite end, the lowest prices for bread and cereals in 2019 were recorded in Romania - 47% below the EU level, followed by Bulgaria - 35% below the EU level, and Poland - 30% below the EU level.

Romania also had the lowest meat prices in the European Union (EU) in 2019.
