Motion of no confidence lacks 8 votes to pass, Govt stays in place

The Romanian Parliament voted against the no confidence motion today and left the current Government in place. The motion required eight extra votes to be passed. There were only 228 votes supporting the motion, while the minimum was of 236. Only 197 MPs supported the current Government and voted against its dismissal. This means the 15 percent pensions cut and 25 percent state salary cut measures will be enforced. The measure only requires the OK form the Romanian Constitutional Court.
