British fund buys large farm in South – East Romania
British investment fund Insight Investment has bought a 13,600 – hectare farm in Calarasi county, in the South - Eastern part of Romania. The deal is worth some EUR 30 million, according to estimations from Romanian daily Ziarul Financiar.
The fund made the purchase by acquiring a company called Agricom Borcea, which owns the farm. Around half of the land is leased on 49 years from the state, while less than half is leased from the open market. The company itself owns some 3,000 hectares.
The seller was Cyprus – based company Alisa Farming Enterprises. The British fund made the deal via its investment division Thames Farming Enterprises.
