British riders win Red Bull Romaniacs' prologue race in Sibiu

British rider Paul Bolton won the prologue race of the 11th edition of Red Bull Romaniacs Enduro competition in Sibiu, on Monday, July 15. Two other British, Graham Jarvis and Johny Walker got second and third spots in the gold category of the race, which gathered some of the best Enduro bikers in the world.

Red Bull Romaniacs is considered to be one of the toughest Extreme Enduro races in the world. The prologue race took place in Sibiu, on one of the city’s main boulevards, in front of 15,000 spectators, an large crowd for a sports event that is non-related to football in Romania.

The setup for the race was created by Andy Fazekas, professional snowboarder and off-road motorbike rider, now a sports teacher in Sibiu. He used 120 tons of rock, 130 tons of wood, 3 kilometers of fences, barriers, concrete blocks, pipelines and barriers to build the 3 kilometer-long racetrack.

The sections included several railroads and a trailer crossing, cable-reels, wall-rides, a city forest, the anti-jump, a spiral wall ride, crazy jumps and the “guillotine”, and a moving log.

Some 350 riders from 35 countries entered the competition. In the following days of the competition, riders move to off-road courses. They will ride from Sibiu to the mountain resort of Voineasa then to Petrosani and then Back to Sibiu. The race ends on Saturday, July 19.
