Bucharest National Airports Company (CNAB) announced on Wednesday, August 12, that it has started the modernization works at runway 2 of the Henri Coanda International Airport - Bucharest’s main one.

The contract of almost RON 110 million (some EUR 22.7 million) was attributed to Porr Construct SRL by public tender, News.ro reported. The project should be completed in five months.

CNAB representatives said that the project would not cause delays in the operation of flights, as the small number of landings and takeoffs during this period allows smooth operation with a single runway.

The runway has already been closed on August 3 for preparatory work. The last major repair works were carried out in 1996.

About a month ago, CNAB completed the upgrade works at the Delta taxiway of the Henri Coanda International Airport. The works cost RON 28 million (EUR 5.7 million) and took eight months to complete.
