Bucharest City Hall gives EUR 2.2 mln to churches this year
Bucharest's General Council (CGMB) voted on Monday an amendment to the 2016 draft budget which provides that the churches in Bucharest will receive RON 10 million (over EUR 2.2 million) worth of public funds this year. The money will be used to complete various church construction and revamping projects.
“We’re talking about some ongoing projects which need financing to be completed and to not lose the investments made so far,” said Silviu Vaduva, a member of the General Council, cited by local Mediafax.
The People’s Salvation Cathedral in Bucharest, which is the largest church to be built in Romania, will get a financing of some RON 2 million (EUR 448,000) this year. The rest of the money will be split between other churches in Romania’s capital that need to be revamped.
