Bucharest City hall wants to launch its own Cash for Clunkers program

23 July 2018

The Bucharest City Hall plans to offer 5,000 eco-vouchers with a value of RON 9,000 (EUR 1,935) each to Bucharesters who scrap their old cars to buy new ones, with low emissions, News.ro reported.

The vouchers can be used for purchasing Euro 6 non-diesel cars or electric cars. The project will be discussed in the Bucharest’s General Council meeting this week.

With this measure, the municipality aims to improve air quality in the city and eliminate old cars from the streets. Last year, some 7,500 old cars in Bucharest were scrapped and replaced with new Euro 6 cars through the Rabla Clasic (Cash for Clunkers) program financed by the Environment Ministry. However, the City Hall wants to accelerate the process with its own program.

The program’s beneficiaries are individual car owners or companies based in Bucharest.
