Two service managers within Bucharest’s city hall were recently indicted for the illegal restitution of a 15,000 sqm plot of land, in 2004, and for deciding to pay damages for another 3.5 hectare land.

The value of the land that was illegally retroceded was EUR 3.3 million, according to the prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).

The two public officers then tried to cover their tracks by issuing fake documents saying that the restitution was legal, that were later signed by Bucharest’s mayor.
