Bucharest hotel owners want removal of touristic promotion tax

28 August 2017

Bucharest hotel owners want to challenge the touristic promotion tax, said Calin Ile, president of the Federation of Hotel Industry in Romania (FIHR), reports local Profit.ro.

The hotel owners claim that the money collected from this tax, namely around EUR 2 million, is not used for the city’s promotion. Instead, the money is left unused in the municipalities’ accounts.

FIHR includes hotel chains such as Continental Hotels, Radisson, Marriott, Intercontinental or Ramada Majestic. According to a decision of Bucharest’s General Council, hotel owners need to pay 1% of the accommodation tariff as special tax for touristic promotion.
