Concert at the subway to celebrate the Romanian Principalities Unification on Sunday
Bucharest metro operator Metrorex will celebrate the Day of the Romanian Principalities Unification on January 24.
On this occasion, the company will organize a folk music concert at Piata Unirii 2 metro station, starting 14:00. Moreover, the commuters are invited to join Hora Unirii (the Dance of Unity), a traditional Romanian folk dance where the dancers hold each other's hands and the circle spins on the music’s rhythm.
Hora Unirii is actually a poem written by Vasile Alecsandri and published in 1856 while the song’s music was composed by Alexandru Flechtenmacher. Romanians usually dance on this song on January 24, the day when Wallachia and Moldova united under the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza.
