Bucharest public transport company buys buses with LCD, video surveillance

01 August 2016

Bucharest's public transport company RATB wants to buy 500 new buses via a public auction, and it has established the main criteria that bidders need to meet.

The buses need to have air conditioning, LCD screens with information as well as a system for counting the number of passengers, reports local Mediafax. The new buses also need to have video surveillance.

RATB hasn’t yet decided the price that is willing to pay for acquiring 500 buses, because it still waits for the results of a market survey that will start this week.

Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea initially announced that RATB would acquire used buses, but then changed her decision. The public transport company is financed by the City Hall as the transport tickets and subscriptions only cover about half of its regular expenses.
