Bucharest City Hall will pay to repair building facades
The Bucharest City Hall will cover expenses to repair building facades in the city, and building owners will be able to repay it in ten years, according to a draft decision the Bucharest’s General Council (CGMB) approved on Wednesday.
The Bucharest City Hall will sign contracts with the owners of buildings with damaged facades for varying amounts. The project will however not include the buildings with the highest earthquake risk.
The first areas in the project are Universitate, Magheru and Lascar Catargiu. There are derelict facades in Bucharest that endanger people’s safety, Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea has said.
Bucharest is the European capital with the highest seismic risk. It has 345 buildings with a very high seismic risk, where 12,000 people live. However, there are no efficient programs to consolidate these buildings, and repairing their facades is not equal to consolidating them.
