The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) plans to introduce Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) on trade on its regulated market, as a result of the development of investment funds which place money in real estate properties. The BVB is yet to announce the calendar of this project.

REITs were created in the US for the first time and are the link between real estate investments and the capital market. They come in three types: equity, mortgage, or hybrid.

The REITs trading on a stock market triggers a more transparent real estate market, which is usually known as a non-transparent market.  See a list of UK REITs which are listed on the London Stock Exchange here.

The local real estate market is shared by several foreign investment funds, most of which listed on various stock exchanges outside Romania: CA Immo, NEPI, Immofinanz, among others.
