Bucharest will have a new tennis arena, in the Lia Manoliu sports complex

10 September 2015

Romania's capital Bucharest might have a new tennis arena with more than 3,000 seats, which will be located in the Lia Manoliu sports compound, near the National Arena football stadium. The project reached the City Hall’s Technical Committee of Urbanism, and the architects are to decide where the hall will be located.

The project also includes three smaller tennis courts, to be used for practice, reports local Hotnews.ro. The Government allocated late last year some RON 57 million (over EUR 12 million) for this project.

The arena is to be built on a land of some 18,000 sqm, part of the Lia Manoliu National Sports Complex. The land is located between the Tennis Academy and the National Arena - Romania’s largest football stadium.

Bucharest’s large tennis tournaments are currently taking place at Arenele BNR, which has about 5,000 seats, but which needs to be revamped.
