Bucharest’s main airport wants facial recognition surveillance system

04 December 2017

The Bucharest National Airport Company (CNAB), which manages Bucharest’s two airports, has opened a bid to upgrade and expand the closed-circuit television system (CCTV) of the Henri Coanda Airport of Bucharest, also known as the Otopeni airport. The project is expected to cost EUR 8.86 million and will be financed from the airport’s own funds, Economica.net reported.

Under the project, the airport will be equipped with facial recognition and automatic recognition of license plates systems. It will also have a video data center, and the video surveillance system will be expanded to areas currently not covered, such as the parking lots, the Tarom hangar, and the official reception area.

The bids can be submitted until January 10 and the project is to be delivered within a maximum of two years.

The CNAB recorded total revenues of RON 808.6 million (EUR 175.8 million) in the first nine months of this year, up 20.1% over the same period last year. The revenues mainly grew because of the increase in the number of passengers. Some 5.92 million passengers transited the two airports in the first six months of this year, up 20.5% compared to the same period of 2016.
