Online retailer Amazon, which is also the producer of ebook reader Kindle, plans to launch a tablet which will rival Apple's iPad, according to international media. The launch has been rumored to happen late September or early October, when Amazon will most likely unveil the details of its new product.

According to the New York Post, the online retailer plans to sell its tablet for a much lower price than the iPad. According to reports, the Amazon tablet is expected to run Android 3.2 with a nine inch screen.

HP has done a similar cost cutting move for its TouchPad tablet, reducing its price from USD 399 to USD 99. The iPad costs around USD 500 and according to pundits, the market is hungry for more tablets, but at much lower prices.
