Car registrations up in Romania, but second-hand cars still dominate market
New vehicle registrations went up by 8.5% year-on-year in Romania in August, and by a quarter in the first eight months of the year, according to data from the Car Registrations and Driving Licenses Direction.
Romanians registered 8,400 vehicles in August, and 46,000 cars in the first eight months. Dacia is still a brand leader, with 2,100 cars registered in August this year, even if 15.4% below the number of registrations in August 2013. Next came Volkswagen – 633 units, Skoda – 593 units, and Ford, 524 units.
For second hand cars, 20,000 units were registered in Romania in August, which is a 5% increase year-on-year. In the first eight months, Romanian registered 139,000 second-hand cars, down 5.6% year-on-year. Volkswagen was the most popular second-hand car registered in Romania in the first eight months – 39,000 units, followed by Opel – 25,000, and Ford – 16,300 cars.
There were almost 6 million vehicles in Romania end – 2013, up 4.7% year-on-year, of which 4.7 million cars. Around 1.9 million vehicles were 6 to 10 years old, and 1.4 million cars were between 11 and 15 years old. Almost 1.1 million cars were still older than 20 years.
