Carrefour sees higher turnover in Romania, same profit

French group Carrefour posted a turnover of EUR 1.8 billion in Romania last year, up 10% year-on-year.

The turnover includes the results of three companies, namely the one operating hypermarkets and proximity stores (Carrefour Romania), the one still operating the network taken over from Billa (Billa Romania), and the legal entity managing the Market supermarkets (Artima).

The cumulative profit reached EUR 30.2 million, similar to 2015, according to data from the Ministry of Finance. Only Carrefour Romania recorded profit last year, whereas the other two firms saw losses. In 2015, all three companies posted net profits.

The French group had almost 15,000 employees in Romania in 2016, and was one of the top employers in the local economy.
