Carturesti closes down bookshop at French Institute in Bucharest
The Carturesti book chain announced it closed down the bookshop within the French Institute on Wednesday. In a Facebook post, the bookshop announced it was selling books with a 30 percent discount on Wednesday, the last day of activity in the location.
The bookshop, selling mainly books in French, opened in 2009, back then its tenth bookshop in the chain. The investment in the bookshop was of EUR 50,000. The bookshop also included a small cafe and was never intended to generate massive sales, but rather bring a charming atmosphere to a space unused by the French Institute.
Carturesti, a chain owned by Serban Radu and Nicoleta Dumitru, was founded 12 years ago and had a EUR 6.4 million turnover in 2010, with bookshops spread across Romania.
