Romanian MEP Catalin Ivan launched on Saturday, October 13, a new political party called The Alternative for National Dignity (ADN), which will not have a president but will be led by a coordination team.

Ivan is a former member of Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD). In September this year, he sent a request to the Social & Democrat (S&D) Group in the European Parliament asking for the exclusion of PSD from the group over the August 10 protest in Bucharest. However, at the end of September, he resigned from the S&G Group, arguing that his decision came after the Group didn’t want to exclude PSD from the European political family.

Ivan’s new party ADN “aims to reinvent all the internal mechanisms of a classical, traditional party” using the latest IT technologies. It also wants to become the long awaited alternative for all those who feel disappointed with the political class while staying away from making alliances with political parties that held the power in Romania, according to a press release posted on the new party’s Facebook page.

A digital app of the party is already functional, being available for both iOS and Android operating systems.

Two new political parties were launched in Romania this year, both by former prime ministers of Romania. One of them, named Miscarea Romania Impreuna – RO+ (The Romania Together Movement), was founded by former technocrat prime minister Dacian Ciolos, while the other one – Pro Romania, was launched by Victor Ponta, a former member and president of the PSD.
