Romania's CFR awards EUR 573 mln contract for railway segment modernization
Romanian railway operator CFR and the consortium made up of FCC (Spain), Astaldi (Italy), and Convensa (Spain) have signed the contract for the modernization of the Gurasada-Simeria railway segment, which will allow trains to run at a speed of 160 km per hour.
The contract is worth RON 2.63 billion (EUR 573 million).
The 40.8-kilometer railway section is part of the Pan-European Corridor IV. The execution period amounts to 36 months.
The contract includes railway modernization work, as well as building 17 bridges, 27 footbridges, four overpasses, three underpasses. It will be financed with non-reimbursable funds and money from the state budget.
FCC previously teamed up with Astaldi for building the Raul Doamnei-Hasdeu sector of Bucharest’s new subway line.
