03 May 2010

One third of the Romanians who directed 2 percent of their income tax to the Church and Church-related NGOs. Only 10 percent chose SMURD or Save the Children, according to a recent survey by GfK. Only 60 percent of those with income from various sources know about the possibility of directing 2 percent of the income tax to a non-profit organization, according to the survey. From those who knew about the possibility only half actually redirected the percentage of their income tax, who would otherwise be cashed in by the Romanian state. The lack of interest and the lack of trust in NGOs were among the reasons for which people decided not to redirect the income tax share. The study was carried on in March this year on 426 people from urban and rural areas in Romania.
