Cinema City plans 22 new cinema openings in Romania between 2014 and 2016, and the next cinema to be opened will be in Targu Jiu, Moshe Greidinger, CEO Cinema City International, told Romania-Insider.com.

Some of these cinemas could also include IMAX screens, as Greidinger believes the company could also add two IMAX screens in Romania, adding to its existing one such screen.

The cinema operator recently opened its second multiplex cinema in the Romanian city of Ploiesti,  within AFI Palace Ploiesti. This was its 16th location in Romania. The newly opened multiplex has 1,273 seats and 6 digital screens, 5 of which are 3D.

The cinema operator agreed earlier this year to sell its operations, Romania included, to British cinema chain Cineworld, in a deal worth some EUR 600 million. Moshe Greidinger, a shareholder in Cinema City, took over the CEO position for Cineworld. Following the deal, Cinema City is to own a quarter of Cineworld's shares, and receive a cash disbursement.

In Romania, Cinema City runs units in Bucharest, Pitești, Iași, Timișoara, Arad, Cluj, Târgu Mureș, Bacău, Baia Mare, Brăila and Constanța.
