Cinema City to open new multiplex in Romania
Cinema chain Cinema City Romania will open a new multiplex cinema on December 7 within the Ploiesti Shopping City commercial center.
The multiplex is Cinema City's biggest outside the Romanian capital, with a capacity of 2,087 seats and 12 digital screens, of which seven are equipped with 3D projection equipment.
The cinema from Ploiesti is one of the 14 opened in Romania by Cinema City, an operator which has been active on the local market since November 2007, when it opened the first cinema in the commercial center Iulius Mall in Iasi.
The company currently owns cinemas in Bucharest, Pitesti, Iasi, Timisoara, Arad, Cluj, Targu Mures, Bacau, Baia Mare, Braila and Constanta.
Cinema City network, which last year included 12 cinemas with 114 screens, in 2011 generated sales of around EUR 15.5 million, the equivalent of 3.7 million tickets sold. Basically, the operator holds almost half of the market, given that Romanians bought last year 7.23 million of cinema tickets worth some EUR 29.4 million, according to the National Center for Cinematography (CNC).
Cinema City International, a company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, is the largest multiplex cinema operator in Israel and Central and Eastern Europe. The company operates in seven countries: Israel, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania.
