City in central Romania registers lowest temperature this winter season

Romanians who live in the central Romanian city of Miercurea Ciuc felt the worst of winter, when the lowest temperature this season, of minus 25.3 degrees Celsius, was registered on Sunday night (February 2 to February 3)

The area is known for its very low temperatures during winter. Other localities in the same county of Harghita registered low temperatures on Monday morning – February 3: minus 24.7 degrees Celsius in Joseni, and minus 19.9 degrees Celsius in Toplita.

The absolute minimum for February was registered in 1987, minus 35.2 degrees Celsius, in Miercurea Ciuc. The same city witnesses the absolute maximum for the month, of plus 16.3 degrees Celsius, in 2008.

Romania is currently experiencing a cold wave, which has brought low temperatures after a week of snow and blizzards.
