City of London Lord Mayor pays visit to Romania
The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Nick Anstee (in pic), is leading a business delegation to Romania this week, aiming at promoting UK financial businesses.
During his time in Bucharest, he will be meeting Romanian president Traian Basescu, prime minister Emil Boc and the ministers of economy and einance, as well as other policy makers and business leaders from both Romania and the UK. He will also attend a conference organized by the Romanian Central Bank (BNR) on Wednesday. He will also deliver a speech at a British Embassy seminar on public private partnerships tomorrow after opening the Bucharest Stock Exchange trading session.
“Indeed Romania has attracted more than four billion Euros of investment from the UK whilst more than 4,000 British companies have already established a presence in the market,” said Nick Anstee.
The business delegation will consist of approximately 15 people including high level representatives from a number of leading City-based firms and organizations such as the London Stock Exchange, the Law Society of England and Wales and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
As head of the City of London Corporation, which provides business and local government services to the City, the Lord Mayor of London's main role is ambassador for all UK-based financial and professional services. The Lord Mayor of London is not the Mayor of (Greater) London, Boris Johnson. The Lord Mayor is elected for one year and the position is unpaid and apolitical.
