Coface revises up Romania’s GDP growth forecast for 2014

10 April 2014

Coface has raised Romania’s GDP growth forecast for this year to 2.3 percent, being slightly more optimistic than the forecast made by the authorities and the international financial institutions, of 2.1-2.2 percent.

In early-2014, the company estimated an increase of 2.1 percent for the Romanian economy, due to slower growth of exports and low recovery in consumption.

"The quality and speed of Romania's economic growth depend on infrastructure and the quality of the business environment. Infrastructure is a problem in Romania, and in what concerns governance, Romania, similarly to Poland, ranks better than other countries within emerging Europe, but there is room for improvement,” said Yves Zlotowski, chief economist with Coface, who attended a conference organized by Mediafax.
