Coldest night this winter recorded in Romania

Romania has witnessed the lowest temperature this winter – 35 degrees Celsius at Intorsura Buzaului in Covasna county, just a degree higher than the lowest temperature ever recorded there. This was recorded on Thursday morning, January 8. Low temperatures were also recorded in the central city of Brasov: – 33 degrees Celsius and in Miercurea Ciuc: -29 degrees Celsius.

All of the central region of Transylvania saw low temperatures during the Wednesday to Thursday night (January 7/8).

Meteorologists warned it would be extremely cold all across Romania this week, with temperatures expected to go slightly up towards the weekend. Until then, maximum temperatures range from -14 degrees Celsius and -2 degrees Celsius. It might get cloudy and even snow in some regions towards the end of the day on Thursday, January 8.

Capital city Bucharest too is under the cold wave, with minimum temperatures around -13 degrees Celsius, and maximums between -5 and -7 degrees Celsius.

It will get considerably milder during the weekend, with temperatures ranging from 0 to 7 degrees Celsius, but it will only be a short lived mild period, as it will get frosty again for a few days on Monday, January 12.
