Economic sentiment in Romania fell again in April, for the second consecutive month, according to the EU's business and consumer surveys department. The overall Economic Sentiment Indicator in Romania fell in April by 1.1 points to 94, its lowest level since December last year.

By area, consumer confidence in Romania suffered the biggest fall – down 37.9 points. Confidence in the construction sector also took a big tumble, a 33 point fall. The industry and services sectors' indices also fell, albeit only slightly. Retail trade was the only sector to see increasing confidence, a small 1.6 point rise in the index.

Romania's overall Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) score of 94 was, however, ahead of both the EU and the eurozone averages. The ESI for the 27 EU Member States in April was 89.7, a 1.8 point fall on the previous month. Meanwhile, confidence was slightly lower in the eurozone, with an ESI of 88.6 after a 1.5 point fall.
