Construction costs in Romania, lower than in Poland, Czech Republic, report shows

Construction costs in Romania are lower than in Poland, the Czech Republic and Croatia, but higher than in Hungary or Bulgaria, according to a study conducted by the British consulting company EC Harris. Construction costs in Romania are 37 percent lower than in UK, while in Hungary’s case they are 40 percent lower than in UK.

Eastern European prices are generally lower, with differences ranging from 30 percent lower in Poland to 45-50 percent lower in countries like Bosnia, Macedonia and Bulgaria.

Switzerland is the most expensive country to build in, with construction costs in this country being 25 percent higher than anywhere else in the world, according to the report. Denmark retained its position as the second most expensive place to build, closely followed by Sweden.

India and Sri Lanka were tied as the cheapest countries in which to build, with construction costs estimated to be 72 percent cheaper than the UK baseline.

The annual EC Harris report benchmarks the construction costs in 55 countries across the globe using UK prices as a baseline. Check the official release here.
