Continental develops wireless charging technology in Romania

20 June 2017

German automotive producer Continental has developed a wireless charging technology for electric cars at its plant in Timisoara.

The charging power is transferred wirelessly from a load carrier located on the ground to a receiving board on the car’s underside. The driver has to park over the load carrier, assisted by an innovative micro-navigation solution developed by Continental, according to the German company.

The innovative charging technology occupies a relatively small space in a garage or parking space, compared to the cable-based technology.

At the Timisoara engineering center, the company develops technologies for electric cars.

In Romania, Continental owns seven production units and four research and development centers in Timisoara, Sibiu, Carei, Nadab, Brasov and Iasi. Continental is also a partner of a joint venture in Slatina and has a tire distribution center in Bucharest.

Continental looks to hire 1,500 people in Romania this year
