Romania's daily coronavirus cases hit new high

Romania added 1,112 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 41,275 on Thursday, July 23, the authorities announced in the daily report released at 13:00.

It is the highest number of daily cases reported since the start of the pandemic.

Apart from the new cases, 393 patients retested positive for the Covid-19 infection.

Of the total cases, 24,862 patients have recovered, while 2,787 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. 

In the past 24 hours, 25 Covid-19 patients passed away, pushing the death toll to 2,126. 

Of those who passed away in the last 24 hours, two were aged between 40 and 49, four between 50 and 59, eight between 60 and 69, five between 70 and 79, and six were over 80 years old. All of them had previous medical conditions. 

Across the country, 5,586 coronavirus patients are admitted in hospitals, 285 of them in intensive care units.

At a national level, 1,030,692 tests were performed by the same date, 20,085 of them in the last 24 hours.

Since the previous daily report, the authorities also included the results of 1,334 tests performed before the last 24 hours and reported by July 23.

Throughout Romania, 250 Covid-19 patients were isolating at home, while 816 people were in institutionalized isolation. Another 1,334 people were under quarantine at home.
