Court of Accounts asks Romanian gas producer Romgaz to recover EUR 35 mln damage
Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz had sold over EUR 35.6 million worth of gas without respecting the regulations, the Court of Accounts has found during a control. It has demanded the gas producer to recover the damage, according to a document of the company’s general shareholders’ meeting.
The board of directors asked the shareholders to hire a law firm with experience to represent the company in the dispute with the European Commission (EC) and the Court of Accounts. Romgaz representatives said that they’ve already filed an administrative appeal against the Court of Auditors’ decision.
On June 6, European Commission officials carried out unannounced inspections at the offices of local companies Romgaz, Transgaz, and OMV Petrom. They are suspected of having participated in an agreement to block the gas export from Romania to other EU member states.
