Crazy experiments and tech innovations at Researchers’ Night this Friday

24 September 2015

Researchers’ Night, an event organized in more than 300 European cities every year, will take place in several Romanian cities this Friday, September 25.

Researchers, explorers, inventors, scientists and writers will attend the events to be organized in Alba Iulia, Arad, Bacau, Barlad, Brasov, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Deva, Galati, Iasi, Oradea, Piatra Neamt, Pitesti, Sibiu, Suceava, Targu Jiu, Timisoara, and Tulcea. The program includes crazy experiments, conferences, contests, and technical innovations.

This year’s edition of the event proposes two complementary approaches: #Researchers for Humanity - which comes with a new approach to the interaction between the general public and researchers’ world through activities and information related to how scientific research contributes to human progress, and #doyouspeakscience – which brings researchers into contact with the general public through the universal language of science.

In Bucharest, the events will be organized in two main spaces, namely Universitatii Square and AFI Palace Cotroceni. Several institutions will welcome science enthusiasts at Afi Palace Cotroceni with films, experiments, presentations, and demonstrations. Some of these institutions are the National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies, the Research and Development Institute for Plant Protection, the National Research Institute for Earth Physics, Urania Astronomical Society, Astroclub Bucharest Association, and the Space Science Institute.

Find the entire program for Bucharest here. The event’s program for all the participating cities can be found here.

Antipa Museum in Bucharest also organizes special events this Friday, for the Researchers’ Night.  Between 17:00 and 21:00, the public can attend several activities such as Kitchen Science - How can we extract DNA from fruits?, and What does a zoologist needs in field trips?, they can discover the fascinating worlds of molluscs and insects, and learn more about spiders and scorpions.

The museum also offers its visitors a virtual reality app, which can be tested in the museum using a pair of 3D glasses. In the app, the user can choose if he wants to see the world as a spider or scorpion and chase his pray through a room. Find more about the activities at the Antipa Museum here.
