Cultural Institutes in Bucharest the latest to celebrate sleepless night for the arts
The sixth edition of the Cultural Institutes Night will be on between June 22 and 23 June, when 14 centers and cultural institutes will be open to the public, according to the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR).
Since 2007, at the end of June, cultural institutes in Bucharest have opened their doors to the public for a special night time session. Included this year will be: British Council, Czech Centre, Institute Balassa - Hungarian Cultural Centre, Delegation Wallonie-Brussels, Austrian Cultural Forum, Camões Institute / Embassy of Portugal, Instituto Cervantes, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Goethe-Institut , French Institute, Italian Cultural Institute "Vito Grasso", the Polish Institute, Cultural and Information Centre of Ukraine and Turkish Yunus Emre Cultural Center.
ICR in Bucharest will be celebrating with the Wallonie-Bruxelles institute, through jazz music, dance, poetry, photography and film.
At the ICR, between 17:00-18:30 and 20:00-21:30, visitors can take part in Romanian dance classes with maestro Nermina Damian. There will also be Italian food. In the garden ICR, between 18:30-20:00,"Poetry today meets its translators," will bring together authors, scholars and translators to read in Romanian, German, Italian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Turkish.
The French Institute will hold the workshops "stories and masks" and "Espace Cours de langue", as well as organize the concert "Circles ... from Chopin to Liszt", by pianist Nicholas Davies.
The Instituto Cervantes is holding various events, including a flamenco concert, a photo exhibition and a poetry recital, while the British Council invites guests to an evening dedicated to the Olympics 2012. The evening will continue with screenings of films about sports and London, the British Council collection, production undertaken between 1940 and 1950.
At Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center, visitors can take part in a demonstration of Turkish language lessons for beginners, but also art workshops - Ebru (water painting), traditional Turkish archery, art tezhip (gilding) husnuhat (Ottoman calligraphy) and glass blowing. Also, there will be a Baglama recital (three-stringed instrument) and, if all that culture works up an appetite, traditional Turkish food to nibble.
Bucharest Urban Transport (RATB) will lay on a special event bus service connecting the venues.
