Cultural institutes in Bucharest to open doors again for public during Open Night of the Institutes in June
In an event similar to the White Night of Museums and White Night of Galleries, Cultural Institutes in Romania too will open their doors to the public for a night, on June 14 this year, for the Open Night of the Institutes.
For the first time, the European Commission Representative Office and the European Parliament Information office in Bucharest will join the event, which is in its seventh year.
The Polish Institute is coordinating this year's edition of the event, which gathers the British Council, the Czech Center, the Turkish center, the Wallonie – Brussels delegation, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Goethe Institute, The Balassi – Magyar Institute, the Cervantes Institute, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the French Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute.
The highlights in this year's event include:
The Romanian Cultural Institute will organize a Romanian lesson for foreigners in its garden, and an exhibition called “Stories about the Romanian Blouse – Ie'. A piano recital will follow at 21:00, and screenings of Romanian shorts which had also been screened at Cannes, starting 22:30.
The British Council, which celebrates 75 years in Romania, will give a 75 percent discount on all subscriptions made between the hours 17:00 and 20:00 on June 14. A fashion exhibition will be organized there at 20:15, focusing on the 30s influence over modern costumes. It will be followed by a British classical music concert, a film screening and a karaoke party with British music.
The Czech Center and the Wallonie – Brussels delegation will celebrate the event together. There will be Czech beer, Belgian delicacies and a cabaret show, as well as a show from the band Not(e) Sister starting 21,00.
The Magyar and Polish institutes will also collaborate this year, and several events will take place in their courtyards, with a photo exhibition, music show, with the band Parafusions, traditional Polish music and dance, as well as a game themed on medieval games and medieval pubs.
The Cervantes Institute and the Austrian Cultural Forum will organize a classical and flamenco guitar recital, and a screening of the spy film Garbo, el espía .
The Turkish center Yunus Emre will bring to the table the Turkish cuisine and culture, as well as creation workshops, film screenings, a Turkish language lesson and an Ebry workshop – painting on water.
The European Commission Representative Office and the European Parliament Information office will present a painting exhibition, and two movie screenings – the Snows of Kilimanjaro and Io Sono Li, starting 18.30 and continuing well into the night.
The French Institute will launch its new portal Culturethèque presenting its digital mediateque, and the show Romanyeah! At Elvira Popescu hall.
The Italian Cultural Institute will organize a jazz concert in its garden, and screen the comedy Nessuno mi può giudicare/ Escort in love.
For those who do not want to settle for just one event, and would like to go from one place to the other, the association Green Revolution will rent for free 50 bikes from its rent center in Herastrau park for the evening.
