Romania’s Dacia carmaker reaches 6.5% market share in France
Romanian carmaker Dacia’s sales in France soared by 19.1% in 2018, despite the modest advance of 3% posted by the whole market.
The brand thus improved its market share by nearly 1 percentage point, to nearly 6.5%, local Profit.ro reported.
The Romanian producer sold 140,326 units on the French market in 2018, over 30,000 more than one year earlier. Dacia's best-selling models were Sandero, which ranked on fifth in the annual ranking in France with 70,077 units registered, about half of the brand’s total sales, and Duster (ninth best-selling model in France with 46,931 units).
Dacia’s rising sales might have been the result of the migration of certain traditional customers of Renault group toward lower-cost segments, Profit.ro speculates. The sales of premium brands in France decreased: Infinity’s sales plunged by 52%, but also less expensive brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche saw shrinking sales.
