DB Schenker Rail: Our trains go at 19 km per hour in Romania
Rail freight carrier DB Schenker Rail, which is part of the German group Deutsche Bahn, is still waiting for investments in the local rail infrastructure, as the company’s freight trains circulated at an average speed of 19 km per hour last year, down from 22 km per hour in 2014.
The drop in the rail speed in Romania affects the company’s profitability, said DB Schenker Rail CEO Eduard Iancu, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.
“We are happy that we still make profit,” he said.
In 2014, the company had a net profit of EUR 3 million.
The rail freight market reached 50 million tons in 2014. By comparison, about 190 million tons are transported on roads every year.
