Delphi Technologies relocates production lines from London to Romania

28 February 2019

London-based Delphi Technologies, a provider of advanced propulsion solutions for automotive manufacturers, announced that it is transferring part of the Sudbury (UK) plant to Iaşi, in Romania, local Profit.ro reported.

Delphi is one of Sudbury's top employers, but the factory, which employs more than 500 workers, will be shut down by mid-2020. Globally, Delphi Technologies has about 19,000 employees.

The group's decision to move some of the plant's activities to Iasi is due to lower operating costs in Romania. Meanwhile, companies such as HanesBrands, Rieker (light industry), or Nestle (confectionery), operating in the western part of the country, leave Romania invoking high labor costs.

Delphi Technologies has also recently opened an IT center in Bucharest, to provide information technology services for the whole group.

In 2017, Delphi Technologies, with about 5,000 engineers, broke away from the Delphi Automotive company, becoming an independent company rated at USD 4.5 billion on the New York Stock Exchange. Delphi has been operating in Romania since 1997, reaching 8,000 employees in 4 factories. In Iasi, Delphi Technologies has a factory for high-pressure pumps and injectors for the automotive industry.
